Founded in the year 1956 with its headquarters in Chandigarh, the Pracheen Kala Kendra is one of the most prominent educational institutions, dedicated to the conservation, development and circulation of Indian classical music and art forms. Being one of the most esteemed examination boards in the country, the Pracheen Kala Kendra is having its centres all across India and abroad. The Northern School of Music feels privileged for getting the opportunity to be affiliated with to become an examination centre of this prestigious examination board.
From among the subjects taught at the NSM, the Pracheen Kala Kendra conducts examinations on Indian Classical Violin, Singing (Indian Classical Vocal, Kheyal, Dhrupad, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti), Dance (Kathak, Rabindra Nritya and Creative Dance), Tabla and Fine Arts (Drawing and Painting both). Apart from these, examination facility from Pracheen Kala Kendra is also available on Sitar, Sarod, Esraj, Sarengi, Veena, Odissi Vocal, Pakhawaj, Dance (Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Manipuri, Kuchipudi) and Recitation.

The Pracheen Kala Kendra provides everything a student needs to pursue a career in music and arts. It has more than 3500 affiliated centres all over India and abroad. It is perhaps the largest examination board in India, with a strength of more than 3 lakh candidates.
